Open Source Software and Lightweight Implementations for Central Government - Customer and Agency Perspectives

Abstract:
Over the last few years Communities and Local Government have implemented a combination of large-scale implementations using proprietary Content Management Software and smaller more incremental implementations using the latest open source technology. This reflects a general trend within Central Government which is currently exploring alternatives to the larger-scale implementations due to the costs and risks involved.

The purpose of this talk will be to present the strengths and weaknesses of both approaches from both the customer and agency perspectives. Various case studies will be presented including implementation methodologies and technology overviews. These case studies will include the implementation of the corporate website, the intranet and a local government portal. The core technologies discussed will be Content Management and Collaboration Tools
